So, my husband and I went to Greece last November. It was better than I thought it would be. We spent 5 days in Athens, then went on to Mykonos and Crete. Wow is all I can say. Athens is a wonderful place to visit and November was a perfect time to do it. The weather is just right - not too cold and not too hot. And there are not too many tourists so getting into the sights and restaurants was easy. There are the usual sights - the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Hadrian's Arch, Syntagma Square and museums galore! Then there are the restaurants. You pretty much can't go wrong no matter where you eat, but there were a few that we just loved! We tried Psarras near the Acropolis and were not disappointed. The Grasshopper and the Ant is another great place for lunch or dinner - not pretentious, just yummy. Another one is Café Avissinia - you can eat on the ground floor or opt for the fancier rooftop terrace with views of the Acropolis. No matter where you end up, you won't be disappointed.
Then it was off to Mykonos. What a great little island to relax on. You can wander around the whitewashed homes and shops and check out the old windmills at the harbor. There isn't too much to see on the island - but if you want to relax - this is the place to do it! Lovely hotels, beaches, and places to eat. The locals are friendly and are willing to help you find the best places for authentic food and experiences.
Finally we hit Crete. What a great island! Lots of history here, beautiful hotels, great food, warm and welcoming local people to meet and speak with. We found some really interesting shops to visit - not just the usually tourist traps. The cobblestone streets are loaded with places to shop and eat and you can't go wrong no matter where you stop. Overall, this is a wonderful place to spend a few days and soak up the sun and see the sights.
